Mini Vs Regular Photography Session

Every so often you may see notifications about our mini photography sessions that are available for a pre-selected day but what is a mini session and what is the difference between that and a regular photoshoot?

A mini photography session is a 30–45-minute photoshoot where the photographer may choose the location and time slots available for people to book. These sessions are great for those wanting to try out a photographer or maybe needs a few fresh photos for a season but can’t afford too much as they typically cost less than a regular photoshoot.

Below we will talk about the key differences in mini sessions and a regular photoshoot so you can decide which is the best option for you.

Availability

A regular photography session will typically follow what you want, where you want it, and when. You plan the theme and review poses with your photographer ahead of time. Because these sessions are booked for you and your group, they can take over an hour to complete, allowing plenty of time for your photographer to get the photos you are looking for.

Mini sessions are planned by the photographer in advance. We announce our sessions on our social media accounts a few weeks or months in advance, but the spots are limited. As with regular sessions the spots must be booked in advanced, so no walk-ins available. 

Price

Regular sessions have base prices and are negotiated and agreed on between you and the photographer before the session. Because these sessions are customized, the cost can vary based on a variety of factors from location to hours needed. Deposits may also be required before the session date. All of these things are discussed and agreed on with your photographer.

A mini session will have a set price that is decided in advance and announced in the announcement. Because you are booking to fill a spot, payment may be required in full before the session to avoid anyone else from taking your time slot. 

Themes/Locations

The locations of regular sessions are decided by you, photographers have suggestions and a studio if you are unsure of locations, let your photographer know and they can have suggestions that will give you photos perfect for your vision. Themes in these sessions can range from a family photoshoot in the park to a surprise proposal for your special someone!

Mini session’s themes can be flexible depending on what is available in the location the session is being held at. Indoor sessions give more options with backdrops and props so when you see the announcement find out the locations and ask about what options are available.
